The video comes from PlayStation Underground, where developer Insomniac Games’ James Stevenson shared a full 20 minutes of gameplay from the Ratchet and Clank remake. The video showcases some of the thrilling platforming and action that gamers can expect from the title when it releases. The hosts play through a few levels, with several cut scenes thrown in along the way.
Alongside the gameplay footage itself, the video also brings to light some of the design choices made during the development process. The return of the original Ratchet and Clank was initially revealed at E3 2014, to much fanfare. Since then, fans of the franchise have been wowed by plenty of trailers, including an initial gameplay trailer that hit last year. Among the community, there was a strong hope that the remake would help return the franchise to glory.
It’s not all been plain sailing, however. After all, the title suffered from a delay due to Insomniac wishing to hold back the release date of the game to coincide with the launch of the duo’s first movie performance. With the movie set to release on April 29, it gives players a good amount of time to get back into the Ratchet and Clank mood, even though the feature film itself may have a few deviations from the source material.
It remains to be seen just how successful the movie and remake will prove to be, but early reports of the game suggest that it will impress fans of the franchise. What’s more, it seems as though the time is definitely right for the return of the 3D platformer. Hopefully, the Ratchet and Clank remake will prove to be a worthwhile addition to many a gamer’s library.
Ratchet and Clank will be released in North America on April 12, 2016, exclusively for PS4.
