The dog in the video is actually known as Stevie the Wonder Dog on social media. Stevie suffers from Cerebellar Hypoplasia, a neurological condition in the cerebellum that cause eye problems and poor muscle coordination.
Over on R/aww, many users recognized Stevie in the clip and tried to clear up the poster’s and mentioned the dog wasn’t blind. R/uselessflailing wrote, “This dog isn’t actually blind! He has CH, a brain condition that makes him wobbly! He’s called Stevie the Wonder Dog on most social media.”
And they’re right! Stevie has his own Facebook page and Instagram account. Among his many videos, he can be seen playing with his stuffed animals and splashing around in a small outdoor plastic pool. The dog definitely loves to play in the water!
In the ‘About’ section on Facebook, the caption stated, “Stevie is a five-year-old yellow labrador with Cerebellar Hypoplasia. He loves his ducky more than anything, but puddle dancing is a close second. Our only rule in the house: Ducky doesn’t go outside.”
Jane Cornelius spoke about being Stevie’s owner in an interview with The Dodo. Cornelius noticed his love for puddles during their first meet and greet. When the labrador retriever arrived at her home, he spotted the puddle in her backyard and went straight for a splash.
Cornelius said, “He eventually made his way over and found the puddle and just went nuts. He was splashing and so excited. So that was it. I gave him a bath day one and he never left.”
Due to his cerebellar hypoplasia, Stevie has to work a bit harder to act and move. Still, Stevie pushes through and Cornelius loves him for his positive outlook.
“Stevie is just Stevie. He acts like a typical Lab and I don’t think he knows any differently,” said Cornelius. “However, he does know how to problem solve and adjust to be able to do what he wants when it is challenging.”
About two months ago, Jane Cornelius celebrated National Specially Abled Pets Day. In her Facebook post, she wrote, “Remember, different, not less. In fact, where some may say Cerebellar Hypoplasia is a disability, I see it as Stevie’s superpower.”
“His adorable tippy taps and love of puddles have brought smiles to thousands if not millions over the past couple of weeks, and that’s pretty special,” she added.
Newsweek reached out to Cornelius for comment but did not hear back before publication.
